The story behind the Raabadhi Challenge
Through our shared commitment to sportsmanship and healthy competition, we foster accountability, teamwork, and, most importantly, camaraderie among young people, especially through the programs organized by MJS. Our goal is to provide diverse opportunities for youth engagement, ensuring they are kept away from negative influences and harmful behaviors. One of MJS's core objectives is to contribute to the overall development of the Maldives, particularly the R. Meedhoo area. We are proud to fully support urbanization and social infrastructure projects that benefit the community as a whole. By focusing on the youth, we aim to offer opportunities for individuals to improve their social skills through engaging activities, while also strengthening the bonds that unite the community. Our primary objectives include fostering character and discipline, instilling the value of education, and promoting positive behavior both at school and within the broader social environment. These principles guide the planning and execution of our social activities. Established in 1979, Meedhoo Jamiyyathuhl Salaah (MJS) is a registered NGO that was founded with the aim of providing opportunities for the youth of the R. Meedhoo community in areas such as education, entertainment, health, and religion. In recognition of our contributions, MJS was honored with the Best Active NGO award in 2008 by the government of the Maldives for delivering integrated community programs that support youth development.
The "Raa Badhi" is a traditional Maldivian toddy collecting pot that has been crafted by local artisans for centuries. This unique cultural artifact has played a significant role in the daily lives of the people of the Maldives. The name "RaaBadhi" is derived from two Maldivian words: "Raa," which refers to Raa Atoll, and "Badhi," meaning cup, symbolizing the vessel used for collecting the toddy. This connection to local tradition highlights the importance of heritage and craftsmanship in the Maldivian way of life. The "RaaBadhi Challenge" is the largest futsal tournament in Raa Atoll, established in 2019 by Raa Meedhoo Jamiyyathuh Solah (MJS), in collaboration with the resorts of Raa Atoll. This event has rapidly become a major highlight in the community's sporting calendar. The primary goal of the competition is to promote the sport of futsal within the atmosphere of the Raa Atoll resorts, encouraging not only athleticism but also camaraderie and friendly competition among participants. By fostering a competitive yet fun environment, the event aims to provide a positive experience for everyone involved, from players to spectators. The competition is designed to bring people together, strengthening community ties while celebrating the athletic talents of local youth and teams. Every year, the "RaaBadhi Challenge" is hosted in Raa Atoll Meedhoo, attracting participants and audiences from across the region. It serves as a wonderful platform for players to showcase their skills, and for the community to enjoy a lively, engaging atmosphere that unites them in the spirit of sport and friendship. The event is more than just a tournament-it is a celebration of the local culture, community spirit, and the shared love for sports.
